I am on my 3rd Mirena IUD in the last 10 years, the purpose of using Mirena was of course for Birth Control, this last year however I decided to look into all the aches and pains I have had over the years and found many women with the Mirena IUD have had a lot of the same problems I was experiencing. I have had EVERY blood test known to man to see if I had an under active thyroid, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Lupus,MS etc the list goes on and on. Come to find out the Mirena is the basis of a lot of women getting silicone poisoning. Yup that's right not just implants can cause silicone poisoning. When I give my list of symptoms to my doctors they look at my like I am crazy, they say someone 35 years old shouldn't be in this much pain. You shouldn't have the aches and pains you say you are having, the moodiness, not being able to tolerate people, having a horrible memory lately, etc. Trying to get any one of my doctors to give me a silicone toxicity blood test is like trying to pull teeth. One says they have never heard of the poisoning, the other says we don't have the lot number for the IUD that was removed , what does having a lot number have anything to do with getting a blood test?? Anyway I am determined to find a doctor who will actually not think I am " nuts" and seriously look into this toxicity. There are a lot of bloggers here online having so many of the same problems that I am having and there is little knowledge for us to get proper treatment. My IUD has been out for almost a week now and I got one of the best nights sleep ever Saturday night, which is amazing for me, I usually get up due to muscle spasms in my back,or restless legs but I was able to sleep solid until 7am !!!

I hope you get your answer soon! I have had my mirena out almost 4 weeks now. I had it for a year and two weeks. I was having pain in my pelvic area all the time and just felt bad. Had two ultra sounds and doctor just kept telling me everything was fine and just take Ibuprofen. I did that and it helped but I just felt like I was popping it all the time. This year at my physical explained to the doctor I was still in alot of pain which is when I got the second ultra sound. Said everything was fine and acted like it was nothing to do with the mirena. She said hang in there maybe your body just needs more time to adjust and I am going to recommend you see a gasterologist. Well, on my way home the more I thought about it the more I wanted the mirena OUT! A week later I made an appointment with another GYN and had them take it out. Oh the pain in my pelvic area lifted immediately. Kept my appointment with my gasterologist and I have had an ultra sound done on my gallbladder and endoscopy and all came out fine. He give me some medication for stomach spasms and it seems to have helped some. My symptoms since the removal naseau, headache, dizziness, pain in my right side, anxiety attacks (bad attacks). You name it I feel like I have it. I hope all this goes away soon. I just want to be myself again. I was a care free go and do what I want to kind of person now I just feel like I want to hide away and never come out.

I forgot to mention that I am 37 years old and that I got the mirena because I smoked and when I turned 36 was told I could no longer be on birth control pills.

Thanks Elaine, I hope we all get some relief after the Mirena has been removed, This week has been a roller coaster of nausea& dizziness for me big time, however the sleep I get since having it removed is great. My hair in the week the IUD has been removed hasn't fallen out as much as it did and I too have severe pain on the right "hip" side of my body too. I believe all in due time that our bodies will heal and we will be able to enjoy life again. Have you tried the bath detox yet? I am only 35 years young and at times I feel worse than an ailing elderly person!! It's so sad to feel this way. I have been on lots of pain killers NONE of them give any relief to me at all.

I hope you are right Nicole it will feel so nice to be normal again! :) I go to sleep fine but seem to wake up every morning about 2:30 or 3:00 and can't back to sleep until about 5:00 and have to be up at 5:45. Very tiring. I have not tried the bath yet....hadn't ever heard of it. My right pain is also in the hip and side stomach area. Wonder what they could be? Women like us have to stick together or I think we would go crazier! :)
So TRUE!!!! I know I have the worlds most intolerable attitude lately, it's SO NOT ME!!! Luckily I have a wonderful husband that puts up with it. I don't have the desire to do ANYTHING, if I could lay in my bed ALL DAY I would. Doctors out there need to get more schooling on this situation, it isn't a "common thing" that there are thousands of us suffering from having the Mirena, like the Norplant was banned they seriously need to look into banning the Mirena as well. Below is the Detox Bath I found on the curezone posted by a woman whose daughter is having the same bad effects from the Mirena the rest of us are.

I am just astonished. I have been going insane trying to figure out what my deal is. Why I'm so sick all the time with all these odd and seemingly unrelated symptoms. I have been wondering for the last 5 years and when I started doing some serious investigating on my own ( the doctors think I'm crazy or just drug seeking) I found these forums and my jaw dropped. I am disgusted, at the same time relieved I KNOW that this is what has been ailing me. Almost all of these symptoms I have had. The first year I had mirena things seemed Ok. I had some issues in my ankle out of the blue. I felt like I had arthritis in it and was limping around when I was on my feet for a while. I chalked it up to just being a waitress for a long time. The docs did tests, xrays so on and so forth and found nothing wrong with it. I'm just thinking "how can there be nothing wrong with my foot if I can't even bear weight on it?" So I started popping ibuprofen like candy. Never really helped. Then my shoulder out of the blue started locking up, Got checked out, and again nothing was wrong. I did physical therapy steroid shots, that did seem to help but I had issues from time to time. Then came the ovarian cyst. I was in ER at least 3 times a year. They would just tell me that they go away on their own. They did, but they came back more frequent and worse. Then came cysts in my breasts and terrible breast pain. As bad as it was when I was nursing. Nothing would make this go away. I had to wear extra padded bras so that I wouldn't bump or hit them. They are sooooo tender and painful. Then the nausea. Dizziness, shortness of breath, UTI like symptoms of burning and bladder fullness, but no UTI's. Sunlight sensitivity, dry mouth, lump in my throat like when your about to cry, panic attacks and emotional outbursts. Shooting pains on random parts of my body. Severe migraines. Blurred vision, I feel like my eyesight has worsened rapidly. Rapid weight loss. Then joint stiffness and pain, lower back pain. I get out of bed and it takes at least 3 hours for my body to start feeling like I can move it. I weigh 115lbs and feel like my body is 900lbs. I just can't get my body to go. It's so frustrating. I found these forums and other womens stories. I had the docs do lots of testing. They found nothing except elevated kidney function and high levels of protien in my urine. I also had a positive ANA. I asked my doc to do the silicone test. He had never heard of it. Thanks to this site I had the right tests to show him. I'm glad he's willing to look into this and seemed intrigued. I'm having the test done and am looking forward to getting this damn mirena out of me. Which has to be done surgically because he said the strings were nowhere to be found. I will let you all no how it goes. And I hope everyone that has dealt with this nightmare will start feeling like themselves again. I have never had any health issues ever until I had this piece of garbage put in me.

Update: I underwent the silicone test and they just called me today and said that there was no silicone in my system. I am at a complete loss. I'm happy to know that isn't the problem but so frustrated to not have answers. I just want to know what is going on with me so I can find the right treatment. Now we are waiting for the gyno appt in a couple of weeks so they can assess the situation. I will likely have surgery for removal of the mirena. And will probably have my tubes tied as I will never go on any sort of birth control again. I don't trust it and I just don't think my body can handle anymore of this synthetic nonsense they are putting into our bodies. I will update after the gyno.
